In the center of the garden grows Ms. Figgy, our Black Mission Fig tree. If you have a look at Ms. Figgy, you will see that figs have begun forming. This fig crop is known as the “BREBA” crop. The breba crop grows from last year’s wood and are the first figs to appear in early spring. Figs take about 90 days to mature. So, we can expect to enjoy eating the breba crop in June. The main fig crop will grow on new wood created this year. Not all fig varieties grow a breba crop. Some fig varieties grow a breba crop that tastes inferior to the main crop.  Fortunately, our Black Mission fig does make a breba crop and the flavor is every bit as good as the main crop. The main crop on the Black Mission fig matures in September and October. Let the tasting begin. Watching this amazing process is just another reason to visit the garden on a regular basis. See you there. God bless.
