Ash Wednesday and our Lenten Season
After consulting with the congregational council I have decided on a Lenten
Midweek schedule.

Ash Wednesday
Our Ash Wednesday service will be held outside in the Courtyard at 1
pm due to our concern for your heath because of Covid 19. I have asked
Sara to record the service and make it available by 6 pm that same
evening. She will send the usual-E Blast with the internet link that will take
you directly to the Vimeo worship service.
I encourage those who worship with us on-line to find a source for the
imposition of ashes. I was successful in making a suitable ash for my
forehead by taking several box matches and burnt them down about half
way. After the heat has dissipated, rub your finger on the side of the
burnt match. I was able to obtain enough ashes to use on my forehead.
You may have a better idea, just don’t burn anything down!
If there are two or more of you, I urge you to make the sign of the
cross on each other’s forehead and say the words, Remember that you
are dust and to dust you shall return.
These words are quite meaningful and even emotional, especially
when one family member imposes ashes on another family member.
That’s what I have experienced when I place the ashes on my wife,
daughter or sibling.

Lenten Midweek services
I will lead two services each Wednesday, at 1 pm and at 7 pm, via
Zoom. The internet address for the Lenten service will be sent to
everyone on our E-blast mailing list.

I haven’t created the service yet, but there will be a liturgy of prayer,
scripture reading and a conversational, interactive message on the Lenten
theme.
So if you haven’t yet downloaded a Zoom app on your computer or
tablet, this may be a good time to do it. If you need help, call me and I’ll
walk you through it.
