This year we are living into the theme: Together, We Grow, which involves ways to look and engage the world. I thought I would take this time to share a very simple way for you to engage with both the church and the world at the same time. One of the simplest things you can do if you are on Facebook is to like the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Facebook page. While you are at it you can also like the Harvest of Hope Community Garden Facebook page as well.
When you like a page it can give the page more access to more people. What helps out even beyond liking the page is liking the posts that are put out by the church. Perhaps you know this, and perhaps not, but the more people that view our content and like our content the more Facebook thinks it is something that more people should see.
All social media is based on algorithms, and those algorithms are driven by the number of times that people engage with the content that is posted. YouTube does this, Twitter does this, so does Instagram, Snapchat, Vimeo, and TikTok. When a video checks all the boxes in the algorithm it then goes “viral” (aka popular). Now I doubt that one of our posts on Facebook or elsewhere will ever go viral but every click, view, and like helps to spread the visibility of Bethlehem.
Honestly this is a simple way to help promote the church that only takes a minute or two as you scroll through your social media feeds. If you need help with your social media just ask. The church office can help you out and so can our Social Media person (she’s kinda an expert at it). We’d love to hep you out so you can help the church out.
While we’re on the topic of social media, (sorry if you don’t use it and this week’s letter is a dud for you) let us know what forms of social media you use. We are active on Facebook and Vimeo, but we can definitely explore branching out to other platforms to reach as many people as possible. Take this survey and let us know.
While I know that liking our page and liking our posts seems trivial, it really is an easy way for you to help spread the news and work of our church. I hope you take the time to check us out and learn more about what we’re doing online. And, again, if you need help with any of it, please reach out to us and we’d be more than happy to walk you through it.
Thank you all for all that you do, and I hope that through this year we can continue to explore and engage in ways to reach out into our communities.
Blessings,
Pastor Brian
